Qualifications:

Psychiatric Technician:

Must Possess the following:

1.1. Graduation from an accredited Psychiatric Technician Program, or completion of an equivalent education and experience that meets the requirement of the American Association of Psychiatric Technicians (www.psychtechs.org);

OR

1.2. Completion of education and experience as a corpsman in the United States military and proof of having completed an Armed Forces course involving neuropsychiatric nursing and an Armed Forces or civilian course from an accredited school in the care of the developmentally disabled client.

OR

1.3 An Associate of Arts degree in a behavioral science, or a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, or a degree in Sociology or behavioral science related field.

2. A minimum of 12 months full time experience within the preceding 24 months as a Psychiatric Technician.

1 QUALIFICATIONS.

1.1 Knowledge. 2 TYPE OF WORK. The duties include but are not limited to the following:

Duties:

  • Demonstrate a sound understanding and assists in the management of a therapeutic milieu; providing structure, social support, patient education, safety, and social skills training.
  • Observe patients to detect behavior patterns and report observations to the medical staff. Document patient care using proper terminology according to clinic policy.
  • Exhibit a basic knowledge of psychotropic medications including actions, side effects, and common dosages. Follow command policies and procedures for the administration and documentation of medications. Inform the mental health provider in charge of any errors, discrepancies, or adverse patient actions.
  • Screen patients to determine presenting problems and priority of appointment. This may entail telephone or in-person evaluation. Perform basic assessment procedures.
  • Assist practitioners in providing specialized treatment and rehabilitation of mental health patients. Assist in conducting individual and group therapy sessions. Observe, monitor, report, and record patient interaction and progress. Institute measures to prevent patient injuries due to suicide, homicide, or elopement. Use verbal and manual restraint and apply mechanical restraints as needed.
  • Provide care to mentally ill, emotionally disturbed, and developmentally disadvantaged patients and participate in rehabilitation and treatment programs.
  • Measure and record patient's general physical condition, such as pulse, temperature, and respiration, to provide daily information. Observe patients to detect behavior patterns and report observations to medical staff.
  • Intervene to restrain violent or potentially violent or suicidal patients by verbal or physical means as required.
  • Co-facilitate individual or group therapy sessions as part of specific therapeutic procedures.
  • Regularly interface with staff and patients to assess needs and continuously improve the quality of service delivered.

Job Duties:

In accordance with Ohio Revised Code, Section 5119.07 the Medical Director is responsible for decisions relating to medical diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, quality assurance, and the clinical aspects of the following: licensure of hospitals and residential facilities, research, community mental health plans, and delivery of mental health services.

Advises the Director and other ODMH staff on the clinical aspects of mental health policy and operations, as related to both inpatient and community settings. Provides clinical insight to broader public policy discussions on behalf of the department through venues including, but not limited to; interagency meetings, external speaking engagements and media inquiries.

Provides clinical supervision & coordination for the Regional Psychiatric Hospital Medical Directors; responsible for clinical decisions relating to medical diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and quality assurance. Provides clinical leadership on hospital initiatives such as electronic medical record implementation, community mental health plans and system of care improvements.

Represents the Department and serves as the spokesperson for the Director on matters related to the delivery of mental health services; attends and provides testimony at meetings, conferences and other speaking engagements.

Minimum Qualifications: In accordance with Ohio Revised Code, Section 5119.07, the medical director must be eligible or certified by the American board of psychiatry and neurology or the American osteopathic board of neurology and psychiatry, and has at least five years of clinical and two years of administrative experience.

SUMMARY. Supports mental health services in psychiatry, psychology, social work, family advocacy, substance abuse prevention and rehabilitation, and mental health programs. Assists mental health professional staff with developing and implementing treatment plans. Performs specified mental health treatment. Reports and documents patients care.

1 QUALIFICATIONS.

1.1 Knowledge. Must have knowledge of psychiatry, psychology, social work, family advocacy, and nursing principles, procedures and theories; confidentiality and legal aspects of patient care; understanding of medical, nursing, and mental health terminology; psychopathology; adjustment mechanisms; substance abuse pathology; anatomy and physiology; deviant and unacceptable behavior; principles of interpersonal relationships; counseling and interviewing techniques; diagnostic nomenclature; psychopharmacology; administration and scoring of psychological tests; medical and mental health ethics; medical and clinical records administration; principles of milieu therapy

1.2 Education. Completion of high school is mandatory.

1.3 Experience. Must have experience administering, scoring, and reporting psychological test results; interviewing patients to obtain biopsychosocial history, personal information; and assisting professional staff to carry out prescribed treatment plan.

1.4 Experience. Must have experience conducting briefings, performing or supervising psychological test administration; and interviewing, and assisting in patient treatment, or substance abuse prevention and counseling.

2 TYPE OF WORK. The duties include but are not limited to the following:

2.1 Conducts or assists in treatment and rehabilitation of mental health patients. Performs initial basic assessment procedures including standardized psychological testing, clinical interviewing, mental status examinations, substance abuse evaluations, and psychological and nursing assessment.

2.7 Provides mental health and substance abuse prevention education.
